Windows xp won't start?

Have a dell computer with windows xp. Turned on comp. and all that came up was a line saying press f1 to restart or f2 to enter set up. I press f1 it repeats the same thing I enter f2 it takes me to the set up screen. Not sure what is wrong or what to do. thanks
