New full version or old full plus new upgrade?

I'm getting a new computer soon, and the one I'm looking at comes pre-loaded with Windows 7, but no disc. I have an installation disc for xp. If I ever needed to re install an operating system, can I use the XP disc and an update disc for 7, or am I better off just getting the full install disc for Windsows 7 if required
